AIESEC in Agra

By now most of us in our city know about AIESEC. Correct. It is the world’s largest youth run organization. But how many of us know what’s beyond this textbook definition? How many of you have bothered to find out what it stands for? It is way more than just a group of really cool people. It is way more than getting to meet new people. To be an AIESECer is to experience it, to live it.
To be an AIESECer is not only to discover new places and new people; it is to discover who you are. It is to bring about a change in yourself, in order to become equipped enough to bring about a change in the world. AIESEC provides you the chance to give yourself an overhaul. To get out of your comfort zone and actually do something worthwhile. Make better use of your phones, your contacts and the internet.
From whatever I experienced and learnt so far, I believe being a member of AIESEC will help you in developing your:
  • Leadership skills
  • Team management ability
  • Proactive thinking
  • Goal oriented project management
  • Commitment and discipline
  • Being part of a multinational environment
It will inspire you to take up challenges. It will motivate you to make a change. It will help you grow and come out of your shell. It will give you the opportunity to travel the world and absorb different cultures. It will connect you to the world. And most importantly, it will give you the chance to emerge as a leader.
AIESEC Agra had a good beginning. We started with 40 people, we were allocated into our respective departments, had a number of meetings and brainstorming sessions. May ideas were implemented and turned out to be fruitful. And now post our first Utsav and our first JNC (June National Conference), it has grown further. New members have been recruited, new ideas are being formed and new events are on their way. It’s on its way to evolve into something bigger and better than anything the people of Agra would have witnessed. And it is still just the beginning.

Meeting Leo - President, AIESEC City, UK!

It was a pleasure to welcome Leo Szivo, who is currently serving as the President of AIESEC City in the UK for 2011-12,  and show him around. Apart from all the fun, this also served as an incredibly enlightening experience for all of us here at AIESEC in Agra as we got an opportunity to actually sit down and have a chat with Leo. This little chat of ours helped us gain some perspective and idea about how things work in the organization as he shared his experiences on leading an established chapter there in the UK while we are, here in Agra, still a very young entity with lots to learn. :-)

In this little sitdown of ours, we also threw a couple of questions at Leo.. but that's a story for another post. He noted that even though we're just a nascent entity here, AIESEC in Agra still has more members than many established chapters outside India. When asked about whether the AIESEC ecosystem with all the terms and technicalities might be a little too intimidating for new recruits, he answered that such an exhaustive framework, bureaucracy is essential for managing an organization as large and diverse as AIESEC.

All in all, it was a very fruitful meeting and we hope to have more such encounters with AIESECers (freshers and veterans' alike) from round the World in the future.

Here's a message from Leo:

"Leo Szivo - President 2011-12 of AIESEC City / UK.

I was in Agra in mid-July as part of my CEED program (Cultural Envoy for Exchange Development) and spent two days there. My CEED program in India involves me travelling to India's Local Committees and Expansions to improve and develop the partnership between UK and India and BCPs.

My short stay in Agra was mainly for touristic reasons, as the Taj Mahal is something no one should miss when going to India. And of course, I was blown away by the majesty and beauty it.
But apart from this touristic purpose, I was pleasantly surprised by the hospitality of the people in AIESEC Agra, with them hosting me and taking me around the city for different leisures and discovery.

I was taken to the Taj Mahal and numerous other places in Agra by a group of 5 from AIESEC Agra and they truly made my experience memorable. As everyone knows, simple things can become the best when surrounded with the right people. I was astonished by their enthusiasm to take me around and talk to me, have conversations about different topics including AIESEC.

I notably had an interesting chat in a cafe with 10+ members of AIESEC Agra, and I am confident with saying that this expansion has the potential to become a core LC in India in the future years.
They have the right people, with the right ambitions and right vision for AIESEC Agra and also AIESEC India.

My short stay was a pleasure, I enjoyed going to Agra and would recommend anyone to go there, not only for Taj Mahal, but to spend a good time with incredible people, that forge 'Incredible India'."

Utsav :)

Utsav? What does it mean to you? What is the first thing that strikes your mind on hearing the word ‘Utsav’?  Ask any AIESECer, and he’ll tell you what it means to the AIESEC Community. To put it in one word, it means ‘satisfaction’. The immensely satisfying, gratifying experience that Utsav-2011 has been for AIESEC Agra just cannot be described in words.

The smiles. The happiness. The spirit of teamwork. The experience. Everything about Utsav-2011 was phenomenal. Utsav was AIESEC Agra’s inaugural event, sort of a kick-start or a cold start event, held in Prelude Public School, one of the premier schools of Agra on the 1st  of June, 2011.

Pioneered by AIESEC Jaipur, one of the World’s foremost local chapters in AIESEC, Utsav has come to mean ‘celebration of innocence’ and we at AIESEC in Agra ensured that it lived up to its name by celebrating it at a never before seen scale. Around 350 under-privileged kids under charge of various NGOs and schools had the time of their life at AIESEC Agra’s ‘Utsav’. Not only did we make sure that they were well fed and entertained and taken care of, but we also submitted ourselves whole-heartedly to them in making them feel not only equal but ‘special’. After all, they are the future of this country and they, undeniably, deserve all the care and attention we can give them.

Had you been in attendance there, you would have felt the sheer level of energy in the whole compound with those three hundred and fifty kids playing around. It was contagious, and in no time we found ourselves playing with them, dancing with them, drawing with them, laughing with them and most importantly sharing with them.

It took a lot of effort from each and every AIESECer and in the end, we’re all happy to have delivered it so well. Numerous meetings, countless discussions and infinite Facebook wall-posts later, there it was, our ‘Utsav’, our ‘Celebration of Innocence’ and how excited we all were. We are only an entity right now but let me say, at the risk of sounding immodest, that I’m pretty sure that it was a job well done. However, the kids were the one who, at the end of the day, really shone. It was their platform, their chance to showcase what they’ve got, through cultural performances and various other competitions. It was their fun-filled day. To ensure that no child returned disappointed at the end of the event was of paramount importance to us.

Around three hundred and fifty kids. Several NGOs. Several Guests of Honor. Yes. It was a logistical nightmare. It was not at all easy managing the kids, making them sit for the next round of performances or snacks, but it was fun at the same time, shouting ‘Baith Jao Bachho, Baith Jao’ again and again. We learnt that kids would remain kids, naughty and energetic. It didn’t matter one bit whether they belonged to an NGO at Kamala Nagar or one at Bhagwan Talkies. They were literally all over the place. They were dancing, shouting, fighting and running here and there, banging into us from time to time. We were stretched really thin, even with all the volunteers. But at no point of time did anyone complain. Truly commendable work done by the volunteers and the rest of the team at AIESEC in Agra.

It is, however, impossible to forget the equally brilliant ‘Utsav’ organized by AIESEC Jaipur that served as an inspiration for the Organizing Committee team here at AIESEC in Agra. Jaipur. The kids had a field day there at the Police Grounds in Jaipur. They were running, squealing, laughing, chattering and some of them dancing exuberantly on the stage while the volunteers were interacting with them, serving food to them and had become little kids themselves. The venue seemed perfect, there was a stage, a lot of big steps which provided a huge space for the kids to sit and play around and there was a big field as well. We just stood around jobless for a while, interacting with some of the AIESEC Jaipur members but soon we were ushered in to do some volunteer work. We made the kids stand in two lines while they went and got the food served to them on plates. But the whole line-making scene got a little messy, so we took the plates and served it to them where they were sitting. It felt good, when they smiled in the cutest way ever on receiving the food.

The drawing competition there, as in here, was a sight to behold. Hundreds of kids, stooped over their drawing sheets, sharpening their pencils, trying to figure out which color to use. I saw my share of green suns and yellow trees, but the passion in the kids was inspiring. It was a hot day, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the AIESEC Jaipur team who managed the event brilliantly.

Back to Agra’s ‘Utsav’ now. The drawing competition saw entries that dazzled the judges; it is, however, another story how a member of AIESEC in Agra’s Organizing Committee won the Second Prize. That part of the event was hilarious. Even the talent hunt competition proved to be incredibly hard to judge. These kids had actually been preparing their dances and acts for weeks and weeks and therefore, they executed their parts flawlessly. Some of the dances were especially magnificent.

And before we knew it, the time had come for us to end the event. We distributed coloring books and coloring sets and tiffin boxes as a little ‘thank you’ present from us and escorted the kids back to the buses. We had done it. The kids had thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We had thoroughly enjoyed the entire event. And we had managed to pull it off without any glitches. That feeling of euphoria that just erupted out of us felt magnificent. It was, as I have said before, a job well done. I will cherish that Utsav t-shirt of mine forever and I hope that as AIESECers, we get the opportunities to host such events again in the future.

We, at AIESEC Agra would like to thank all of our sponsors who made this event event possible and also Jaideep Chagger, LCP - AIESEC Jaipur, Apurv Gupta, VP-F - AIESEC Jaipur and our LCC, Mansweeny Chanana who personally came down to Agra from Jaipur to help us with the event.

AIESEC Agra in News!

Hey Agra!

Are you ready for the next BIG THING that is going to take the whole city by storm in the coming months?

AIESEC is here! Yes, you read it right, after a long, subtle wait for a platform for the young, AIESEC; the world's largest youth-run non-profit organization that is focused on providing a platform for the development of leadership capabilities and engages students and graduates in international programmes, is finally on the doorstep of the city of The Taj. What makes AIESEC unique is the youth driven impactful experience that it offers to its members. AIESEC Agra has been established as an expansion by AIESEC Jaipur with the help of its Expansions Vice-President, Apurv Gupta to make use of the huge untapped corporate environment here and the oozing enthusiasm of the Gen Y of Agra under its Local Committee Coordinator, Mansweeny Chanana.

AIESEC is here to actively engage the youth of Agra in exchange programmes with its member countries. It offers young people the opportunity to truly be global citizens, to change the world, and to get the experience and skills that matter today. Along with international internships and leadership experiences, AIESEC offers the chance to participate in virtual global discussions, virtual team work experiences, online knowledge management and hundreds of physical meetings/conferences, learning teams, coaching with top executives and more. The AIESEC platform is a unique environment that enables people to explore and develop their potential and creates the opportunity for development of defined leadership competencies.

On an individual level, AIESEC enables students to live the AIESEC Experience by taking on leadership opportunities, gaining business skills, and connecting to a global network of students by attending international conferences and interning abroad.
The AIESEC Agra team was recruited in the month of March and has already begun preparing for the big-bang event, ‘Utsav’ which it’ll use to kick-off its active operations in the city. Utsav is an initiative taken up by AIESEC Agra. This event is aligned to the cause of building an environment that helps improve the quality of life that is faced by the underprivileged children in our city. It is the creation of an opportunity to help them discover and develop their potential in creative exercises such as Art, Dance, Drama, Music, and Craft etc. Come June and the people of Agra will get to know something about which they’ve only heard of.

So Agra, get ready to be a part of the change.

The First Local Committee Meeting

AIESEC has finally achieved its wheels, is running fast on the runway and is ready to take off any time soon! The very first Local Committee Meeting (LCM) of AIESEC Agra was held on 24th April, 2011. About 30 young, vivacious individuals filled up to the brim with fresh, innovative ideas gathered together at a terrific venue: a fellow AIESECer Suyash Gupta’s residence. The energy resonating in his garden where the members were seated was quite apparent.

The meeting started off with a brief warm-up session where the members interacted with each other. After everybody was comfortable enough, the four departments: Corporate, DT, Projects & Events and Outgoing Exchange took turns to stand in the middle and give updates. This entailed them to share with others everything that their department had done so far. Since it is just the beginning, it basically involved making the database and contacting people.

The members started off by shouting out their respective department roll calls in order to bring out a spirit of team work and camaraderie. After listening to all the updates, the members cheered and clapped and were filled with a stronger sense of enthusiasm and vigour to know that the operations had finally kicked in and it was time to get more work done. The members discussed a few other tasks that had to be taken care of and how they would go about it. One of the members read out the mail provided to them by the Local Committee Coordinator which clearly mentioned the targets they had to achieve and the different job roles each member would get. The different departments then discussed their modus operandi separately so as to decide what each member will do individually.
Towards the end, everyone talked about the events they are most likely to organize in the near future. The members were evidently overflowing with brilliant proposals and ideas which seemed full of potential and promise to make this endeavour a success.

The LCM proved to be like a kick start to this exciting expansion of AIESEC in Agra; and everybody became familiar with the basic tasks at hand. The members went home feeling excited and enthusiastic. It has begun. The AIESECers of Agra have started flapping their wings, now all they need to do is fly, and soar high into the sky!

AIESEC expands its horizon to the city of the Taj!

AIESEC, the world's largest student-run organization,which
provides an international platform to the youth to develop their
potential, has now taken a step further, by expanding into the city of
the Taj, Agra. What makes this city special, apart from the Taj, is its
youth, the crazy enthusiastic capable and hardworking leaders of
tomorrow. The exorbitant spirit that these people possess is simply
impeccable and that is the reason why AIESEC Jaipur has made a move to
expand into Agra.

AIESEC Agra has been expanded into mainly because of the remarkable
potential, the youth of the city possess apart from the qualities of
being great and responsible citizens in the future. And to top it all
the gusto that these people have to bring about many positive changes
in the society.

So, finally, we have AIESEC Agra!

Live with values
We are the builders
Let’s build a better world”

And we, AIESEC Agra, can proudly say that we have those values and
that indomitable spirit and that we definitely can get that change in
Agra and in the world to make it a better place to live in.We have the
bravado to show the world that what we young minds can do.
The task is huge and we need to steer up all our courage and move
ahead keeping in mind that:

“Together we can,
Together we will,
And together we have to.”
